|2017 AIAA Hampton Roads Section Middle School Essay Contest
Welcome to the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics (AIAA) Hampton Roads Section (HRS) Middle School Essay Contest. This contest is open to all middle school students (defined as grades 6-8) who live in the AIAA Hampton Roads Section area.
Four (4) prizes will be awarded to the top essays submitted. The author of the first (1st) place essay will receive a check for $300. The author of the second (2nd) place essay will receive a check for $250. The author of the third (3rd) place essay will receive a check for $200. The author of the fourth (4th) place essay will receive a check for $150. All winners (and their parents/guardians) will be invited to the AIAA HRS Annual Awards Dinner, held in May.
Additionally, the top 7th and the top 8th grade entries will be submitted to the AIAA Space Systems Technical Committee (SSTC) and will compete against the top entries from other AIAA sections around the country. The national winner for each grade will receive $100 (with an additional $250 for their science classroom) and have their essay published.
